Investments and climate change
The objective of the event is to discuss how investments can contribute to the fight against climate change and to a green recovery, in addition to discussing the findings and recommendations of the report “Investments and climate change – The case of Spain” (already available in Spanish)” with the aim of accelerating such investments. At the event we will launch the English version of the study.

Keynote speaker: Marcel Haag - Director of Horizontal Policies of DG Fisma - European Commission
Marcel Haag is Director for horizontal policies at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Financial Stability, Financial Services and Capital Markets Union. He has worked in different Commission services, including prior to his present assignment, as a Director for policy coordination at the Secretariat General of the Commission. Mr Haag is a lawyer and qualified as a judge in Germany.

Hugo Morán (Lena, Asturias, 1963) began his public career as a councilor of the Lena City Council, where he was mayor between 1995 and 2007. Closely linked to rural development, he chaired the Asturian Federation of Councils (2001-2007) and belonged to the Economic Council and Social of the Principality of Asturias (2001-2007). He was director of the Office of Relations of the Government of Asturias with the General Meeting of the Principality (2007-2008).
Lara Altable
SRI Policies & Stewardship Manager - Santander Asset Management
Lara Altable is currently the Head of Sustainable Investment Policies and Head of Santander Asset Management.
She has extensive experience as a sustainability and climate change consultant at KPMG, with a special focus on the financial sector. Previously, she worked as an environmental technician in both the public and private sectors.
She graduated in Environmental Sciences from the University of Salamanca and completed a Master in Renewable Energy from the European University of Madrid and a Management Program on finance and climate change from the IEB. She also has the ESG Analyst certification (CESGA®) granted by the European Federation of Financial Analysts Societies (EFFAS®)
Mar Asunción
Head of the Climate and Energy Program - WWF Spain
Biologist, Master in Spatial Planning and Coaching. Diploma in finance for sustainability and climate change. She began her professional career working in Environmental Education in private organizations and in the Community of Madrid, to later go on to direct the Department of Environmental Education at WWF. Since 2001 she has been responsible for the Climate and Energy Program of WWF Spain, monitoring international climate summits and collaborating with different sectors seeking synergies to make the transition towards a new renewable, efficient and fair energy model. She is a member of the National Climate Council, Alianza por el Clima, and the Renovables Foundation. Speaker at conferences on energy and climate change, including those held at the Climate Change Commission of the Congress of Deputies
Francisco Javier Garayoa
Director General – Spainsif
Doctor in Economics – Insurance Sciences – with an extraordinary award from the Pontifical University of Salamanca, Law Degree and Diploma in European Communities from the University of Deusto and PDG from IESE.
His professional career, since 1983, has been developed in different areas of the financial sector, as a manager in the BBVA group and as a manager in the Telefónica group.
In March 2010, he assumed the position of General Director of Spainsif, the Social Investment Forum of Spain, a position he currently holds.
He has participated, as an expert, in opinions of the European Economic and Social Council, EESC, and develops teaching work in various postgraduate courses in Corporate Social Responsibility, having collaborated with the Mapfre Foundation on microinsurance.
Joaquín Garralda
President – Spainsif
Professor at IE Business School. His field of research focuses on Sustainability and especially on the behaviors that facilitate or hinder their integration into the culture of the organization, as well as the influence of the financial system to promote these sustainable behaviors. He is chairman of Spainsif and has actively participated in sustainability initiatives, such as having been secretary of the Spanish Global Compact Network, patron of the Lealtad Foundation and chairman of the Ethics Committee of the MicroBank Ethical Fund (Caixabank Group), among other positions.
Su trayectoria como profesor se ha acompañado de puestos de gestión en IE, como Decano de Ordenación Académica de IE University hasta 2020, y anteriormente director de los programas MBA y Executive MBA. En su vida profesional ha sido consultor de organización y estrategia en diversas compañías, ha sido directivo en pwc (PricewaterHouseCoopers), y miembro de varios consejos de administración.
Manuel Gutiérrez-Mellado
Director - BlackRock
Manuel Gutierrez-Mellado, Director, is Head of Institutional Business in Iberia and a member of the BlackRock Alternatives Specialists (BAS) team. In his current position, he is responsible for business development and maintenance in pension funds, insurance companies and corporations. He is also responsible for the development of the alternatives business in Iberia in all customer segments.
Prior to this position, he was Head of BlackRock Alternatives Specialist (BAS) for Latam and Iberia, responsible for developing the alternatives business in close collaboration with local relationship managers and the broader BlackRock Alternative Investors (BAI) organization.
Before joining BlackRock in 2014, Mr. Gutiérrez-Mellado worked as Senior Portfolio Manager at Bankinter Gestion de Activos for 10 years managing multi-asset funds, private equity and discretionary portfolios.
Mr. Gutiérrez-Mellado graduated in Business Administration from the Carlos III University of Madrid in 2005.

Marcio Viegas

Marcio Viegas has more than 20 years dedicated to professional services, especially linked to sustainability, in almost 30 countries: consulting, training, auditing, as well as the development of international standards and legislation in multinationals such as Bureau Veritas, British Standards Institution and Lloyd’s Register. Since 2014 Marcio is founder and CEO of SUST4IN, experts in sustainability. Marcio has a background in Civil Engineering and has a Master’s Degree in Hydraulic / Environmental Engineering from the University of Sao Paulo, combined with an MBA from IE Business School and the experience in social issues acquired during his career and projects in Africa and South America, among others. Currently, Marcio actively participates in organizations and initiatives such as the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), Green Bond Principles (ICMA, London), SASB (USA), Forum Clima (Brazil), Grupo Español de Crecimiento Verde (Spain) and others. Marcio is the author of several articles and has given several lectures on sustainability, reporting, sustainable finance, climate change, circular economy, water management and others.
